NO LAW SAID THAT WOMAN HAVE TO CHANGE HER RELIGION AFTER MARRIAGE: SUPREME COURT

While dealing with a legal question whether a Parsi woman loses her religious identity if she marries a man from a different religion, a five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court said that no provision in the law states that a woman will have to merge her religion with her husband’s after an inter-religion marriage, and asked advocate Gopal Subramanium, representing ‘Valsad Parsi Trust’, to take instruction and apprise it on December 14 as to whether it can allow Goolrokh M Gupta, a Parsi woman who had married a Hindu, to attend the last rites of her parents.

NRIs MOVED SUPREME COURT FOR LAW TO DEAL WITH PARENTAL ABDUCTION CASES

SUPREME COURT TO REVISIT ITS RULING BANNING IMMEDIATE ARRESTS IN DOWRY CASES

The Supreme Court indicated that it would revisit its two-month-old verdict which reduced the severity of the anti-dowry law. On July 27, an apex court bench had directed that no arrest should normally be effected without verifying allegations as violation of human rights of innocents cannot be brushed aside.

GUJARAT HIGH COURT RULED THAT A CONVERT DAUGHTER CAN GET DAD’S PROPERTY

The Gujarat High Court has ruled that a Hindu woman who married a Muslim man and refused her Hindu faith to hold Islam is entitled to inherit her father’s ancestral property according to the Hindu Succession Act, and concluded that the ‘The Hindu Succession Act does not disqualify a convert (from inhering ancestral property). It only disqualifies the descendants of the convert’.
